Lots of people have been asking for ways to stretch the neck recently. So here’s a simple approach. Although releasing tension in the neck is often much more about stretching the shoulders, back and chest.

  1. Find a comfortable seated position. You can sit on a chair or even stand if that’s more comfortable.
  2. Tip your right ear towards your right shoulder.
  3. Reach your left hand to the ground, to the edge of the chair or just simply down – stretching through your left fingers will deepen the stretch.
  4. Try a few small subtle movements and see if they change the feeling of the stretch.
  5. Try tipping your nose down towards your right knee.
  6. Try lifting the back of your head slightly up.
  7. Try sitting up a little taller or lifting your chest forward.
  8. Try pulling your shoulders back and down – then relax slightly.
  9. After a few breaths, switch to the other side.
  10. Afterwards, shrug your shoulders back and forth a few times.
