There are many different styles of yoga and each teacher will adapt what they offer. It’s worth asking a few questions before you try a group class or private instruction with a new teacher to be sure it’s right for you:

  • What type of yoga do you teach?
  • What is a typical class like?
  • I’m looking for [exercise, relaxation, strength, balance, meditation, etc], are your classes right for me?
  • Could you tell me about your teaching experience and style? How long have you been teaching? What training have you had?
  • I have this injury/health condition, are your classes right for me? Is there anything I need be think about or be careful with in the class?

If you have a health condition or injury you should ask a few more questions of the yoga teacher and your doctor or physio. See my article Is yoga right for you? for a few ideas.
