We often think that meditation is about not thinking. That is just one type of meditation. There are many more ways to meditate. One of my favourites uses guided meditation.

With guided meditation, another person talks and you listen and follow their voice as they guide you through the meditation. Guided meditation can take many forms. You might find that you prefer a certain type or certain voice. It’s worth trying a range of different people and types to find one that works for you.

For starters, here are 3 short meditations I often use in restorative yoga. Once you’ve listened to the audio, you could do these meditations on your own without my voice if you prefer.

Sunshine meditation

This meditation focuses on imagining the rays of sunshine warming and relaxing your body.

Trees moving with breathe meditation

This meditation uses visualisation of trees along with a gentle focus on your breathe.

Worry tree meditation

This meditation is inspired by a friend’s mum who would tell her the story of the worry tree as a child when she couldn’t sleep at night.
